Program Availability 

The Music History and Theory minor is available on the Indiana State University campus, located in Terre Haute, Indiana. The minor is not available online. Designed to complement music majors, the minor is only available to undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree. 

Courses for the Music History and Theory Minor

(17 credits)

The Music History and Theory minor helps you explore how music is structured, interpreted, and understood across different time periods and cultures. Through courses in music theory, skills, traditions, analysis, and history, you’ll strengthen your critical listening, score study, and communication skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for music’s evolution.

  • MUS 214 – Music Skills IV
  • MUS 439 – Advanced Topics in Music History
