Courses for the Musical Theater Minor

(23 credits)

The Musical Theater minor is ideal for Theater majors who are pursuing musical theater careers. The minor offers coursework in acting, voice, dance, music theory, and musical theater history. While in the minor program, you will participate in annual musical productions through the Department of Theater.  

Required Courses (8 credits) 

  • THTR 150 – Introduction to Acting
  • THTR 178 - Introduction to Costume and Makeup
  • THTR 178L – Introduction to Costume and Makeup Lab
  • THTR 250 – Acting II 

Music Courses (10 credits) 

  • MUS 103 – Introduction to Musicianship 
  • MUS 185 – Secondary Voice I 
  • MUS 242 – History of Musical Theater 

Take one credit of the following:

  • MUSC 253A - *453 - Lyric Theater Workshop 

Two semesters of:

  • MUS 178 (A-G, I-O, Q-R, and T-U) – Individual Performance Study for Freshmen Music Majors 

Students *must* take MUS 178T.

  • DANC 128 – Introduction to Musical Theater Dance Styles

  • DANC 124 – Modern Dance
