From Alexander Graham Bell’s earliest telephone experiments to the rise of smartphones and the debut of the first Apple iPhone in 2007, communication technology has transformed daily life, business, education, and culture. This interdisciplinary program examines the evolution of the telephone and the rapid technological advances that followed, tracing the path from landlines to today’s interconnected digital world. Through a series of brief presentations of approximately six minutes each, Indiana State University faculty members from a variety of disciplines will explore the social, cultural, economic, and ethical implications of communication technology across generations. Discussion topics will include innovation, connectivity, privacy, media consumption, and emerging challenges likely to shape the future.
